The Visual Arts

Junior Visual Art

The Visual Arts are covered from Year 7 to Year 10 at Aparima College.

Visual Art - NCEA Level 1

Students will complete the prescribed course for National Certificate of Educational Achievement - Level 1. The course consists of 4 achievement standards and/or appropriate Unit Standards. Total credits attainable for the course are 24.

The focus of the year researches into Maori and European art traditions and contexts, the development of drawing and observation skills, the making of artworks, and exploration into a variety of art media and techniques.

Visual Art - NCEA Level 2

This course has run under the supervision of the Senior Art teacher, but has been provided for by the Correspondence School, who have traditionally worked with unit standards. Therefore next years programme may include unit standards and achievement standards or a combination of both according to individual student needs and college course availability.

Students usually focus on two areas of strength or interest eg. Printmaking, painting or design for the year.

The Performing Arts (Music and Drama)

Junior Performing Arts

The Performing Arts are covered from Year 7 to Year 10 at Aparima College including a wide range of music lessons by itinerant tutors. The Visual Arts are covered from Year 7 to Year 10 at Aparima College.

Performing Arts - NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3

Achievement Standards, Music Studies 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and Drama 1.2, 1.3 and 1.6 need to be taken as part of a full course. Students can blend music, drama and dance. Students can also complete Unit Standards towards National Certificates.
